"Canadian rock band Nickelback has escaped claims that its mid-2000s hit "Rockstar" mimicked a musician's competing song for a small indie band, according to Texas federal court records.
U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman's Thursday order adopted a magistrate's judge's February recommendation, which suggested that the members of Nickelback be allowed to dodge a songwriter's copyright infringement suit over purportedly poached musical elements in their hit song "Rockstar." The brief two-page filing dismissing the suit with prejudice didn't detail Judge Pitman's reasoning for adopting last month's magistrate report."
