Associate – Labor & Employment
We are seeking a mid-level Labor and Employment associate for our Los Angeles office. Our Labor and Employment Department consists of over 20 full time Labor and Employment attorneys. Ideal candidates have experience in any of these areas: traditional labor, wage and hour class actions and PAGA lawsuits, and employment litigation.
The successful candidates must have excellent analytical and writing skills, substantial experience handling employment litigation, including single-plaintiff and class action cases, and experience advising clients on day-to-day employment issues. Outstanding academic credentials are required.
Salary range: $232,500-$317,500. Compensation is based on experience, skill, and knowledge.

IT Hardware Technician
Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp, a mid-sized law firm with offices in Los Angeles, New York City, and Washington D.C., is seeking a Hardware Technician to join our team in Los Angeles.
This position’s purpose is to provide general hardware and software support services to the Firm's end-user population. Setup, install and configure systems equipment as well as audio and video teleconferences, while exhibiting a high level of customer service and attention to detail.
The expected annualized base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
The IT Hardware Technician is a hybrid positon and requires three (3) days of in-office work. In addition, this position will be required to participate in the unrestricted on-call policy which requires employees of the IT department to serve in an on-call capacity to respond to an unforeseen circumstance or emergency outside of regularly scheduled working time.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Support Services:
- Provide onsite and remote technical support to the firm's user community including, but not limited to, troubleshooting, installation, configuration and maintenance of firm approved applications, end user hardware, peripheral devices and other technologies.
- Troubleshoot and maintain the firm's printer and scanner assets while appropriately escalating to vendors when necessary.
- Set-up audio-visual equipment; including audio and video teleconferences, PowerPoint presentations and web conferences.
- Set up and configure firm approved mobile devices including Android and iOS devices.
- Troubleshoot and update tickets escalated from first level Helpdesk in the firm approved ticketing system.
- Coordinate with other department members to ensure that accurate inventory data is maintained.
- Monitor inventory levels and alert supervisor when inventory becomes low.
- Handle technical issues in a controlled manner while interfacing with the user community in high pressure situations.
- Utilize independent judgment and discretion in escalating issues to system engineers or other IT resources as well as informing supervisor and IT management as necessary.
- Position will ensure that all assistance given is in compliance with department policies, procedures, and standards. The IT Hardware Technician is responsible for informing their supervisor of any hardware, software, or practices which are non-compliant with firm or department policy.
- Maintain repair area, equipment, and inventory in an organized and clean manner.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Additional tasks and responsibilities as identified. Analyst will need to be available for special projects for the department or firm as requested.

Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum of two years providing technical support to end-users in a legal environment.
- Bachelor's Degree not required but is considered a plus.
- Law firm experience preferred, but not required.
- Organizational Abilities:
- Must be able to organize work according to priorities while balancing time constraints, interruptions and demanding end users.
- Track all tasks and inform supervisor of any delays.
- Follow up on all end-user requests (e.g. help-desk calls, escalation emails, computer installation/relocation, software installation, etc.) to ensure end-user satisfaction.
- Computer Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of desktops, laptops, peripheral devices and configuration issues. Firm understanding of Windows operating systems.
- Excellent knowledge of and ability to support a variety of software including the Microsoft Office Suite and legal-specific software. Familiarity with Active Directory and networking concepts.
- Familiarity with mobile devices including iPhones, iPads, and Android devices.
- Ability to independently learn new software applications and technologies quickly and thoroughly.
- Must be able to detect visual and audio cues for troubleshooting purposes.
- Communication Skills:
- Ability to listen and communicate clearly and effectively while maintaining good working relationships with co-workers, attorneys, and other support staff.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with users in a non-technical fashion.
- Must have the ability to read and understand technical manuals, journals, specifications, and procedures.
- Additionally, this employee must be able to write procedures pertaining to his/her job duties.
- Detail Orientation:
- Proven ability to notice and pay attention to details.
- Availability:
- Must be willing to work extended hours, including but not limited to, nights and weekends, when requested and during major project rollouts. We will make every effort to provide advance notification when possible in order to facilitate scheduling.
- Physical Ability:
- Must be able to lift and carry microcomputer equipment (i.e. CPU enclosures, monitors, chassis, etc...) or other bulky items up to 35 pounds.
- Must be able to maneuver aforementioned items into and out of tight spaces and at awkward angles.
- Must be able to accurately manipulate small tools and components.
- Must be able to physically operate and interact with various microcomputer equipment found within the firm.
- Must be able to detect visual and audio cues for troubleshooting purposes.

Legal Secretary – Labor & Employment

The position will entail supporting approximately 3 - 4 busy Attorneys in the Firm’s Labor & Employment and Litigation practice groups. - Assist in preparation for depositions, court hearings, and trials.
- Manage and organize attorneys’ emails in Outlook and save them in a document management system.
- Enter attorneys’ time on a daily basis.
- Arrange meetings and travel, schedule appointments, and maintain contacts and calendars.
- Process expense reimbursements and prepare client bills.
- Handle electronic filings with state and federal courts; handle agency filings/submissions; and retrieval of electronically filed documents.
- Knowledge of court rules and filing procedures, including determining requirements for filing for in varying jurisdictions.
- Communicate by phone/email with clients, court personnel and other legal professionals.
- Prepare court filings using Adobe PDF to assemble pleadings and exhibits, including bookmarking and OCRing.
- Support other litigation assistants with filings, deposition preparation, and case management.
- Assist other departments and secretarial assistants with overflow work.
Other qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree required.
- A minimum of 5 years of legal secretarial experience. Proficiency in labor & employment terminology and procedures is preferred.
- Satisfaction working both independently and collaboratively with teams of varying work styles.
- Strong work ethic with ability to produce high-quality work in a consistent and reliable manner.
