California Industrial Welfare Commission Closes Doors After Legislature Withdraws Funding

On July 1, 2004 the California Industrial Welfare Commission (“IWC”) was shut down due to lack of funding. The IWC was predominantly responsible for setting the state’s minimum wage, as well as determining hours and working conditions for employees in the state of California. The IWC published its regulations governing wages, hours, and working conditions in a series of wage orders.
