CAREERS
Summer Program

Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP (MS&K) treats its summer associates like first-year attorneys. For this reason, we recruit only a handful of students each year, rewarding those who join us with the opportunity to participate fully in client matters. MS&K's summer program is designed to maximize the exposure of our summer associates to various practice groups, industries and client teams. Our summer associates conclude their time at the firm with the knowledge of what it really is like to practice law at MS&K.

MS&K offers its summer associates the opportunity to work directly with partners and associates on current cases and transactions, many of which are precedent-setting matters. Our summer associates go back to law school in the fall with realistic work experience and renewed enthusiasm for the practice of law.

MS&K integrates its summer associates into the firm by pairing each one with both a partner and an associate mentor. Mentors serve as guides to the firm, providing introductions, advice, work assignment direction and, most importantly, candid feedback.

As an MS&K summer associate you will likely:

  • Research and help prepare briefs on cutting-edge legal issues
  • Attend client meetings, trials and deal negotiations
  • Help prepare MS&K attorneys for oral arguments
  • Attend court events, including hearings featuring the legal work you contributed
  • Participate in mediation and/or arbitration sessions
  • Participate in corporate closings

My most interesting assignment as a summer associate was a memo I wrote on the application of copyright law to a videogame technology. The assignment presented issues of secondary copyright liability, and many of the precedents I relied on were copyright cases tried by MS&K attorneys.

A series of mini-courses are provided to summer associates that include ethics, legal research and writing. Presentations may be given that describe features of our practice specialties. Summer associates are also invited to firm-wide continuing education programs and to substantive presentations on emerging legal issues.

Being a summer associate at MS&K is not all work and no play. MS&K’s summer program is designed to maximize your opportunities to meet a broad range of attorneys and staff while you explore all the fun and sun that makes LA famous or, alternatively, the best of the Big Apple. In addition to scheduled activities, a great deal of spontaneous informal activity is spearheaded by our summer associates, associates and partners.

HOW TO APPLY:

Students who have completed their second year of law school or who wish to work during the summer prior to a judicial clerkship are invited to apply for a position as an MS&K Summer Associate.

Individuals interested in MS&K may send a cover letter and transcripts to recruits@msk.com.

Applications will not be considered complete without copies of transcripts.
